Caring for Your Teak Patio Furniture  Properly

Teak is an extremely durable building material that has been used in shipbuilding for generations because of its ability to weather any storm. Additionally, teakwood requires very little maintenance whether its used indoors or outdoors. This makes teak patio furniture ideal , because even when left to its own devices, teak furniture weathers beautifully and lasts for years.  In London, England there are numerous teak bench styles being used that have lasted for over a hundred years.
If quality teak garden furniture is left outdoors in the elements for a period of time, the teakwood will begin to turn a silver-gray color. You will start to notice the weathering process within about six weeks of leaving your teak outdoor furniture in the elements. This is the natural aging process of the wood, and is really quite attractive. On the whole, your teak table or teak chair sets will achieve its fully-weathered color within six to nine months, and will be a beautifully aged silver-gray.
In the case of indoor use, such as teak sofa or teak sectional seating , or teak wood tables and chairs that are used in artificial lighting, the aging process works a bit differently. Over the same period of time, your teak dining furniture may simply turn a deeper, darker shade of brown. This is due to the lack of natural lighting, wind, rain, and the elements that contribute to the development of the silver sheen seen in outdoor teak furniture .
Some owners of  teak patio furniture or indoor teak furniture prefer to avoid this discoloration, however. You can keep your teak furniture pieces looking similar to the day you bought them with a bit of teak wood care.  Teak oil is available to protect your teakwood from the elements, whether they be rain or artificial lighting. By applying teak oil to your favorite teak furniture pieces about three times a year, you can keep your indoor and outdoor furniture looking like new.
Before you apply teak oil to the wood, you'll want to make sure that the entire piece is clean and dry. The oil is meant to keep bacteria out of the teakwood, but you don't want it holding moisture in, because this could cause your favorite teak chair to rot, and then its beauty is minimal. Also, make sure you cover the entire piece with the teak oil, and let it sit and dry. You don't want to miss a spot because then it will age quicker than the rest of the piece.
You'll want to do this approximately once every four months to keep your beautiful teak wood furniture glowing a golden tawny shade of brown. Whether you decide to oil your teakwood or not, it is certain to provide you with a lifetime of beautiful, luxurious pleasure.
