Learning Spanish & Romance in Spain



You have done it. All sorts of careful planning, saving, and drive have been worth it and you are now visiting and reading in a spanish speaking country. You are prepared to plunge into the local culture and experience all the excitement that staying in a foreign land can entail. Cities such as Buenos Aires, Marbella, and Quito are renowned for their romantic nature. And possibly - just perhaps - you can find a little bit of time for a little romance. After all, you are young, healthy, and you date quite a bit at home, right? So why not try out your skills here?

Why not, indeed! Locating romance in a foreign place has its own special kind of attraction. You are overseas, and you cannot wait to experience the areas and traditions that are brand new to you. Finding that you are attracted to one of the citizens can increase your excitement and intrigue toward the different nation much more than any art museum or class! The chances to meet potential dates extend from inside a Spanish language school to a local coffeehouse or vacation spot, and even just any old city park.

There is one problem, however. You have knowledge of just enough of the Spanish language to Find where you are located, (you are lost on occasion), and say please and thank you. Other than that you use the typical universal language for other things, such as bringing your hand repeatedly to your open mouth (where can I find food?), pretending to wash your hands (I need a bathroom), or waving (hello, goodbye).

How in the world are you supposed to display to your date how brilliant, worldly, and irresistible you are if all you can do is ask where the restaurant restroom is and wave goodbye to your date as you go there? All of the exhilaration of traveling abroad in Costa Rica or studying Spanish in beautiful Madrid can be overtaking, and now you have to worry about not becoming a fool of yourself in front of this fantastic soul?

It can be a smart call to plan for this eventuality (you being the young, fit, attractive, dateable student that you are, after all) before you even jumped on the airplane. Gaining a little underlying knowledge of a little bit of dating language in your intended lovers Spanish language, whether you will study in Spain or live in Argentina, can go far in helping you over the rough spots while dining with the target of your affection. Learning some Spanish phrases and words can go a long way.

Tell your date that you are a foreign student, studying or volunteering in his/her beautiful homeland. A enchanting Spanish woman is likely to be impressed that you are immersed in Spanish in Barcelona, and a sexy Argentinean man is likely to be impressed by an American girl studying in Buenos Aires. This could score you an private tour of arenas known only by the locals, and will probably make your date more understanding. After all, you enjoy his/her homeland enough to move hundreds to thousands of miles away from your home to study there!

Utilizing universal signals, body language, and gestures can go far when you are straining to communicate with your date, but you may want to pay particular attention to how people in his or her area motion when they speak. Rubbing your stomach to sign that you are savoring the cuisine may signify to your date that you are pregnant. If you are a man, this could really cause some discombobulation. So observe, observe, and observe some more.
